About Us

The Shop operates in a portion of the space formerly occupied by the Trojan Hardware Co. In operation from 1858-2009, Trojan Hardware Co. specialized in all matters of construction; at one time filling the entire first floor of the compound at 4th & Congress with its various departments & storefronts.

In 2005, upon purchasing the compound, the new owner strived to find a way to fill a desired niche that differed from the original concept of the hardware store; one that would still pay homage to the virtues it imposed. Over the course of a little less than a decade, 4th & Congress was transformed to include a brewery space, currently occupied by Rare Form Brewing Company, as well as the burgeoning restaurant & cocktail spot known as The Shop. After extensive renovation & focus on maintaining an interior space that reflected the hardware store, the motto “Work Hard, Stay Humble,” was adopted; admonishing the historic past of this first corner in “SoCo” (South of Congress).

In Trojan Hardware Co. tradition, the things we know we can do better than others, we do ourselves – we demand quality – Maraschino cherries are purchased as whole, fresh fruit, then preserved in-house before garnishing your cocktail. Locally sourced pork belly is house-cured & flash hot-smoked before topping your house-ground hamburger or served alongside a proper brunch. We know what goes into your food & beverage – we know what stays out.

A 1956 Trojan Hardware Co. contractors yearbook stated:

“Complacency has no part in our business. We started out small and we weren’t satisfied. Year after year we grew. Our knowledge quota was also getting larger and larger. This we utilized. As we added departments and services, we perfected the quality of our workmanship. And all this time we kept our eyes to a better future.

You’re included in our plans for tomorrow. Our work achievements, whether big or small, have won us the plaudits and respect of our scores of customers. When you know and understand us better like many do, it’s to both our advantage. That our business is expanding so rapidly in a highly competitive field is proof to the standard of our workmanship.

We are geared for more work, bigger contracts – expansion all the way. Our past, we point to it with pride. We face the future with confidence. The goal of the Trojan Hardware Co. is simple. We merely want you to know us as we really are – we can handle the rest.”

“Work Hard, Stay Humble.”
